Overview

Parrish & Sons Construction is a Black-owned, family-operated firm based in Kansas City, specializing in site development and infrastructure. Known for their exceptional work ethic and community investment, the company was poised for regional recognition—but lacked the brand clarity and competitive positioning to elevate to the next level.

Brand House KC was brought on to lead a full-scale brand refresh, develop a cohesive marketing strategy, and position the company for long-term growth and visibility.



The Challenge

Despite having a strong operational reputation, Parrish & Sons’ original brand identity was limited in reach:

  • A flat logo with complex shading and inconsistent rendering across platforms

  • A limited color palette of black and orange with no visual differentiation in materials

  • Lack of storytelling around major project contributions (KCI Airport, Three Light, Downtown KC developments)

  • Minimal focus on the people, passion, and purpose behind the work

Internally, the company was deeply aligned—but externally, the brand failed to reflect their impact, scale, or story.



Our Solutions

1. Brand Refresh

Our first move was a subtle yet strategic visual overhaul. We:

  • Refined the logo to remove heavy shading and layering, giving it a flat, consistent look across digital and print applications.

  • Introduced a secondary color palette to allow for more dynamic and flexible brand expression.

  • Collaborated with a designer to produce a comprehensive brand guide, including custom service icons and project photography to improve storytelling.

The response was immediate: clients and partners noticed the upgrade, and internal teams had a clear system for maintaining brand integrity moving forward.



2. Visual Storytelling & Asset Development

Next, we brought the Parrish & Sons narrative to life through:

  • Pull-up banners and tradeshow materials featuring powerful images of signature projects like the Kansas City International Airport and the Three Light development.

  • A digitized, long-form press kit telling the full story of the company—from entrepreneurial roots to project pipeline—accessible from anywhere and used in media, award submissions, and recruitment.

  • Short-form materials designed for community hiring events and workforce development recruitment.

Every asset started with one principle: tell the story through the work.



3. Strategic Messaging & Positioning

When Brand House KC joined, Parrish & Sons was in the middle of interviews for the KC Chamber Small Business of the Year. Our messaging strategy included:

  • Developing core messaging pillars focused on project impact, workforce excellence, and legacy-building

  • Shifting the focus from leadership alone to the quality of people hired and served

  • Creating award submission talking points that directly aligned with the spirit and values of Mr. K’s legacy

  • Conducting interviews with staff and leadership to ensure messaging was grounded in authentic company culture

This shift resulted in increased visibility and recognition, including being named a KC Chamber Small Business Superstar and one of the Top 10 Small Businesses of the Year.



4. Competitive Research & Industry Benchmarking

We conducted a full audit of local and national competitors:

  • Identified where Parrish & Sons could differentiate based on leadership, workforce culture, and community impact

  • Used high-performing industry models as comparables to measure brand maturity and growth opportunities

  • Incorporated findings into all visuals, positioning, and pitch materials to ensure competitive edge



5. Award Strategy & Public Recognition

As part of our comprehensive marketing strategy, we:
